Ceremonial Cacao Home Recipe
The Recipe
Preparing your ceremonial cacao is a simple yet sacred experience, whether you're practising alone or joining me for a coaching session.
Below, I’ve shared my personal home recipe, which you can adapt to your taste. It’s a wonderful starting point as you explore your relationship with cacao.
Treat the preparation as a mindful journey, taking your time to connect with the cacao and the process. As you immerse yourself, weave an intention into your cacao – something you may wish to activate during your meditation practice.
🜃 PORTIONS
I suggest buying discs, as it’s easier to portion. Each disc is 5g.
A dessert spoon equates to 10g.
If you have digital scales, this will help.
Do adjust the quantity of milk / water to make a different consistency. The less liquid, the thicker the blend.
🜃 SUGGESTED AMOUNTS
🜃 5-10g for a small daily dose. Also recommended if you are pregnant (read more about consuming cacao during pregnancy here⋙) or have a pre-existing health condition (learn more about the cacao’s health benefits and safety here⋙).
🜃 20g for a meditation
🜃 30-40g ceremonial dose.
🜃 WHERE TO SOURCE QUALITY CEREMONIAL CACAO
The only organic ceremonial cacao I use is from my trusted and long time supplier, Forever Cacao. Use the code RISINGCACAO and enjoy 5% off your order (you can simply click on the code link and the code automatically applies at the checkout).
I also sell this beautiful cacao to private clients based in London, which saves you shipping costs and waiting time if you collect from me. Please reach out to me directly helen@therisingspace.co.uk to check my stock.
🜃 INGREDIENTS
Ceremonial cacao, as discs, chopped or grated.
100-200ml of your choice of water, dairy, or plant-based milk. I prefer a half-and-half mix.
A small thumb of freshly grated turmeric and ginger.
A pinch of chilli flakes or cayenne pepper (optional).
1 cinnamon stick or a pinch of cinnamon powder.
🜃 DIRECTIONS
Gently warm your water or milk in a pan.
Add the turmeric, ginger, chilli flakes (or cayenne pepper, if preferred) and cinnamon.
Once the liquid takes on a yellow hue, add the cacao.
Whisk or stir, allowing it to melt fully without boiling. For a creamier, frothier drink, you can use a hand blender.
When the cacao thickens and a golden sheen appears on the surface, remove from heat.
Optionally, sweeten with agave nectar, coconut sugar, or maple syrup, though I prefer mine unsweetened – you get used to the bitter taste.
Serve in your favourite cup or mug.
🜃 IN CEREMONY
When your cacao is prepared, hold the cup in front of your heart and take in the aromas. Feel the warmth against your hands and chest as you breathe deeply, grounding into the earth beneath you. Connect with the cacao by offering thanks and setting an intention, either whispered or breathed into your cup. Sip slowly, letting your intention take root. You may wish to journal, meditate, or incorporate other practices into your ceremony, or simply sit in stillness and observe.
If you're sitting in session with me, I will gently guide you on an inward journey, helping you connect with your heart and intention.
